VIDEO: World's Fastest Lawnmower Sets New High-Speed Record


At the end of May, Don Wales set a new world land speed record for a ride-on lawnmower racing a modified machine called Project Runningblade up to a top speed of 87.833 mph or 141.235 km/h at Pendine Sands - and this here is the video from the event.

VIDEO: Honda's 'Win a ride with Mario Andretti' Commercial

In its latest promotion for new customers, Honda is giving U.S. buyers a chance to win a ride with Mario Andretti in a two-seater IndyCar at the Grand Prix of Sonoma at Infineon Raceway. According to the Japanese automaker, the winner will ride in the IZOD IndyCar during the parade laps, and be on course for the start of the race.

To create a bit of a buzz around the contest, Honda released this commercial with Mario Andreti. Sounds interesting, but it isn't. See why in the video after the jump.

2000 Cadillac Northstar Le Mans Racer Could be Yours for $175,000


Found for sale at the Aero Toy Store Collection is this extremely rare Cadillac Northstar LMP racer from 2000. The chassis number "0LMP00005" Cadillac Le Mans race car is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter Northstar V8 said to produce some 570-horsepower. The Le Mans prototypes were built by GM for use in the American Le Mans Series as well as for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The asking price for this particular Northstar LMP is $175,000. Jeff Koons' BMW M3 GT2 Art Car Racer Unveiled Ahead of 24hrs of Le Mans


For the past 35 years, BMW has been working with artists from all over the world who turn its vehicles into mobile-art and this here is the Bavarian firm's 17th Art Car that was officially unveiled at a special event last night at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France.

Designed by American artist Jeff Koons, it is based on the BMW M3 GT2 racer that took first place at this year's Nurburgring 24 Hours. It will compete with this unique and expressive livery at the famed 24 Hours of Le Man that runs from June 12 to 13.

Dealer Selling Jean Alesi's Ferrari F1 Scuderia Tipo 642 Racer


If you're looking to buy a genuine Formula One race car this may be your chance. A Florida-based dealer has put up for sale a 1991 Ferrari F1 Scuderia Tipo 642 racer with chassis No. 126.

The seller claims that the car, which is powered by a 3.5-liter V12 engine linked to a seven-speed gearbox, was used in the 1991 Formula One season by French driver Jean Alesi who had then just signed for Williams Ferrari.

After being replaced by the Tipo 643, this car was rebuilt and prepared for private sale by the Ferrari factory at the end of the same season. Now it could be yours for a 'mere' US$700,000 or about �565,000 at today's exchange rates. More details and pictures after the jump.

Donahue-Driven Champion AMC Javelin Trans-Am up for Sale for $950,000


Found in the Canepa Collection is this 1971 AMC Javelin Trans-Am champion. It's said to be the only car built by Roger Penske Racing in 1971, and the last car driven by Mark Donahue before he retired from Trans-Am.

According to the seller's description, this 1971 car was actually a 1970 racer that was re-bodied as a '71. After a 2nd-place 1970 season, Penske must have thought they already had a good thing in the chassis.

For the 1971 season, the Javelin got wider fenders and a new spoiler in order to help dominate the track.

Last-Known MGB Works Rally Car Going Under Auction


An extremely rare 1964 MGB which is said to be the last known genuine MG works rally car is being offered for auction, 35 years after bidding farewell to the world of motorsports.

One of two only official MGB rally cars built in 1964, the specific example made its racing debut in the Spa-Sofia-Liege rally in August 1964. It then went on to race another five times as a works entry, at the Tulip Rally, The Acropolis Rally, Geneva Rally, the Castrol Danube Rally and the RAC Rally, all in 1965.

BMW's M3 GT2 Snatches Victory from Porsche's 911 Hybrid at N�rburgring 24 Hours Race


The N�rburgring had a eventful weekend hosting its eponymous race, giving two of Germany's biggest names the chance to go at it for a day. BMW and Porsche both showed up looking to be strong contenders again this year (Porsche has won for the past four years).

Stuttgart-based Porsche finally debuted its much-hyped GT3 R Hybrid (more details here) on the track, but the car gave out 22 hours and 15 minutes into the race. Just because the end result was a DNF does not mean that it didn't put up one hell of a show, holding the lead for eight hours.

Porsche factory driver Joerg Bergmeister says he "heard a loud noise at the rear of the car and suddenly the power went."

Audi R8 LMS Dominates the N�rburgring, Takes First Four Grid Positions for 24 Hour Race


Audi's attempts to win this year's edition of the Nurburgring 24 Hours got off to an excellent start as the qualifying session for the event ended with four examples of the R8 LMS racer filling out the first four grid positions for this weekend's race.

This will be the first time in the history of the 24-hour race at the N�rburgring that an Audi will start from pole position.

Three-time Le Mans winner Marco Werner finished first in an Audi R8 LMS run by ABT Sportsline. Werner broke the existing lap record for the current N�rburgring circuit layout by almost two seconds with a lap time of 8 minutes and 24.753 seconds.

Bummer... Rally Driver Crashes After Spectator Moons Him [with Video]


A cheeky spectator, known only by the color and shape of his buttocks, is said to be responsible for rally driver Mark Tapper's crash at this past weekend's Rally New Zealand.

As you can for yourselves in the video after the jump, the Auckland rally driver lost control of his Mitsubishi Lancer EVO racer when an unknown individual flashed his crack (33 seconds into the video) ahead of a tight corner causing him to crash and rollover the car.

VIDEO: Home Made VW Beetle EV "Black Current" Shocks Tesla Roadster


Here's a short clip of a home-made, electric-powered VW Beetle nicknamed "Black Current" (which jets off the line like a penny racer) taking on Tesla's Roadster at the Santa Pod drag strip. According to the info, it was an "Alternative Energy Racing" event, something that will likely be getting more and more common in the future.

The "Black Current" bug is powered by a pair of forklift truck motors with 60 12 volt batteries and a Gearvendor over/under drive unit. This set-up is said to produce around 1200lb/ft of torque offering the Beetle EV a 0-60mph time of around 3 seconds.

Iconic Alfa Romeo 158 F1 Racer Meets MiTo QV


Alfa Romeo appears to be on a celebration spree this year. Aside from the year-long festivities to commemorate the firm's 100th birthday, the Italian automaker is now celebrating the 60th anniversary of its historic 1-2-3 finish at the first ever F1 European Championship race, which was held at Silverstone motor racing circuit sixty years ago this week (13th May).

To celebrate, the company photographed one of the rare 158s which competed in this historic race alongside the latest Alfa to bear the motorsport inspired Cloverleaf badge, the MiTo QV sport hatch.

Alfa Romeo Presents Giulietta Safety Car for SBK Championship


This here is the Alfa Romeo Giulietta that will serve as this year's safety car at the SBK World Superbike Championship. It is based on the range-topping Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde that's motivated by a 1.75-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine pumping out 235 horsepower.

That's good enough to propel the standard production car from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in 6,8 seconds and on to a top speed of 242 km/h or 151 mph.

Formula DRIFT Singapore 2010: Live shots


Drift fan Darren sent us some sweet pics from Formula DRIFT Singapore 2010, which took place on April 24th and 25th.

According to Darren, "Forty-two drivers...from Asia-Pacific countries such as Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand and New Zealand took part." Some even used smoke screens to mess with the competition's heads.

When perusing the gallery below, keep an eye out for this year's champion, the FX Formula Bridgestone Tandem Assassin Nissan 200SX driven by Tengku Djan Ley.

Peter Brock's Anniversary BRE Edition Nissan 370Z Revealed


AutoTrader Classics' Michael Boulton snagged the very first photos of the finished BRE Edition Nissan 370Z racer that was revealed on Thursday during the Brock Racing Enterprises reunion dinner honoring Peter Brock (not to be confused with the famous Australian racing driver who passed away in 2006) and crew.

Built to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Brock Racing Enterprises' (BRE) win at the SCCA National Championship at Road Atlanta with a 240Z in 1970, the specially modified Nismo 370Z racer features the classic vintage red, white, and blue BRE paint scheme.

VIDEO: Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid hits the Nurburgring

Remember the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid that was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show this past March? Well, Porsche has released a new video of its hybrid racer with which it will compete at the N�rburgring 24 hour race on 15/16 May.

Williams Formula 1 pilot Nico H�lkenberg tested the orange and white liveried 911 GT3 R Hybrid on the Nordschleife in the lead up to the third round of the VLN Long Distance Championship. Check out the video after the jump.

Zagato Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa: Official Specs and Photo Gallery from Villa D'Este


The Zagato-penned and developed Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa was finally revealed in a world premiere at this past weekend's prestigious Villa D'Este Concours.

As Zagato pointed out, the car is not a design exercise but a one off racing special that was commissioned by German collector Martin Kapp who owns, among other Alfa Romeos, an SZ coda tonda and SZ coda tronca, TZ, and TZ2, Junior Z and S.Z.

Inspired by its 1960s predecessors, the original Alfa TZ and TZ2, the TZ3 Corsa is based on a mono shell carbon fibre tubular chassis, coupled with a tubular frame and a lightweight aluminum body.

Sainz, Brundle, Bell, Laffitte and Biela Return to the Race Track for Scirocco R Cup


Five famous names from the world of motorsport including Carlos Sainz, Frank Biela, Jacques Laffite, Derek Bell and Martin Brundle are getting ready to line-up on the grid at Hockenheim this weekend (23-24 April) for the first round of the new VW Scirocco R Cup series.

Together, the five racing aces have started 343 Formula 1 Grand Prix and won the Dakar Rally, two World Rally Championship titles, the Sportscar World Championship, the German DTM championship, the British Touring Car Championship and the Le Mans 24-hour race a total of 11 times.
